Seth Meyers blasts Trump’s ‘criminal’ lack of coronavirus vaccine plan

Newly inaugurated President Joe Biden has already reversed some of Donald Trump’s most damaging policies, abolishing the Muslim travel ban and halting construction on the border wall. So of course, as Late Night host Seth Meyers noted Thursday, upset Trump supporters are lashing out — including Republican senator Ted Cruz.

In a shockingly misinformed tweet, Cruz nonsensically accused Biden of being “more interested in the views of the citizens of Paris than the jobs of the citizens of Pittsburgh” because he rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement. To be clear, the Paris Climate Agreement isn’t actually about Parisians. It was named such because it was signed in Paris, and it’s kind of mind-blowing that a U.S. senator would insinuate otherwise. Also, Pittsburgh was in favour of the Paris agreement.

“[Ted Cruz] is a scheming, festering gym sock full of mayonnaise who knows full well that the city of Pittsburgh voluntarily followed the Paris agreement even after Trump withdrew,” said Late Night host Seth Meyers on Thursday. “Personally, I think Ted Cruz is the last person who should pretend to stick up for Pittsburgh since he just tried to throw out the votes of everyone who lives in Pittsburgh.”

Meyers also blasted the Trump administration following revelations that it had absolutely no plan for rolling out the coronavirus vaccine.

“This is criminal,” said Meyers. “I mean, my god, they knew this was coming and they did nothing. Was the point of Warp Speed to go as fast as possible before crashing into a brick wall?”

However, Meyers did note there was one silver lining to this train wreck. The concerning lack of direction means the Biden administration can start with a clean slate, rather than attempt to rework whatever nightmare plan Trump might have concocted.

“It’s like fixing a birthday cake after putting your kid in charge of making it,” said Meyers. “I mean, you can add as much sugar as you want, but there’s nothing you can do about that ketchup icing.”
