Get a free Nest Hub when you buy a Nest Hub Max

Buy Nest Hub Max bundle at Home Depot – $229

Buy Nest Hub Max bundle at B&H Photo – $229

The 10-inch Nest Hub Max is one of our favorite Google Assistant devices, earning a score of 86. It’s arguably the best speaker of all of Google’s first-party displays and its larger screen makes it best for viewing photos and watching video. It could become something like a mini TV set if you watch YouTube a lot, and if placed in a kitchen, you can ask the Google Assistant to show you recipe videos while you cook a new meal. Read More

Best Buy sale knocks 50 percent off a TCL 8-series Roku TV

Buy TCL 75-inch 8-series TV at Best Buy – $1,800

The 8-series Roku TVs came out at the end of last year and they use quantum-dot LED and mini LED technology. The former promises better color performance while the latter uses more than 25,000 individual lights to achieve “highly precise local dimming” and “smooth, uniform and bright illumination.” It also makes the 8-series stand out from the previous 6-series TVs, which use standard backlighting technology with contrast control zones instead. The best Chromebooks you can buy

What are the most important specs for a Chromebook?

Chrome OS is lightweight and usually runs well on fairly modest hardware — so the most important thing to look for might not be processor power or storage space. That said, I’d still recommend that you get a Chromebook with a relatively recent Intel processor, ideally an eighth-generation or newer M3 or i3. Most non-Intel Chromebooks I’ve tried haven’t had terribly good performance, though Lenovo’s Chromebook Duet 2-in-1 runs surprisingly well on its MediaTek processor.

As for RAM, 4GB is enough for most people, though 8GB isn’t a bad idea if you want to future-proof your investment or if you’re a serious tab junky. Storage space is another place where you don’t need to spend too much — 64GB should be fine for almost anyone. If you plan on storing a lot of local files or loading up your Chromebook with Linux or Android apps, get 128GB. But for what it’s worth, I’ve never felt like I might run out of local storage when using Chrome OS. Read More

Lenovo’s Google-powered Smart Clock drops to $40 at Best Buy

When we reviewed the Smart Clock, we gave it a score of 87 for its compact, attractive design, useful alarm clock features and affordability. It also won Best of CES 2019 in the connected home product category.

We appreciate that it doesn’t have a camera, which alleviates some privacy concerns, and you can toggle the microphone on or off via a switch on the back. That said, for some, the fact that the Smart Clock won’t play back videos or photos or make video calls may be a drawback.

Lenovo originally listed the Smart Clock for $80, but it’s been about a year since the device debuted, and at this point, the price tends to hover around $60. Best Buy offered the Smart Clock for $40 earlier this month, but that price doesn’t come around too often. So, if you’re looking for a smart display, this might not be the deal for you, but if you want a more high-tech alarm clock alternative that doubles as a smart speaker, this is one of the best deals you’ll find. Uber offers to buy out Postmates, says NYT

Uber has made an offer to buy food delivery company Postmates, according to a report in The New York Times. The report doesn’t say how big the deal would be, but it could be finalized as soon as tonight; discussions are said to be ongoing.

Demand for Uber’s ride-hailing business has plummeted during the coronavirus pandemic as people stay at home, but the same circumstances have driven a huge increase in food delivery orders. Uber has been looking for ways to boost its food service, Uber Eats, after laying off more than a quarter of the company’s overall workforce. Read More

Uber is reportedly trying to buy Postmates

It’s no secret as to why Uber might want to buy Postmates. This would expand its food deliveries and help offset tanking demand for its core ridesharing business. It would also counter Just Eat’s acquisition of GrubHub. We’d add that the two companies are political allies — both are trying to thwart California’s gig worker law and keep their couriers as contractors rather than full employees.

For Postmates, a deal might be crucial. The company hasn’t fared as well against its heavyweight rivals, and Uber could either rejuvenate the brand or fold it into Uber Eats. While it wouldn’t be the independent success Postmates might have hoped for, it would be better than falling behind the better-financed competition. Read More

An Ohio City’s Campaign Got More People to Buy Electric Cars

In 2016, the city of Columbus, Ohio, won a nationwide Department of Transportation challenge and was named America’s first smart city. This contest was not just for bragging rights, like some kind of Mensa for municipalities; the award came with $40 million in DOT funding for testing better transportation policies, with an additional $10 million from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. As part of Smart Columbus’ plans to make moving around more safely more sustainable, the foundation asked the city to increase adoption of battery electric cars and plug-in hybrids through an electrification program. And it succeeded. Read More

Even if the iPhone 12 4G is real, you probably shouldn’t buy it – here’s why

The possibility of the iPhone 12 being the first 5G iPhone started off looking unlikely, but more and more rumors started hinting that all phones released by Apple at the end of the year might have 5G connectivity.

News recently broke, however, that as well as the four 5G iPhone 12 models there may also be two models(supposedly variants of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max) that might have 4G versions released too, with lower prices.

While this news seems a bit dubious, given the leaker has never leaked anything before, it got lots of people excited at the prospect of a 4G iPhone 12 that’s supposedly way cheaper than the current iPhone 11. Read More
