Early Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals are already available at Amazon

Nintendo Switch Black Friday deals don’t usually rear their heads until the day itself, however with Amazon launching its early sales today we’re seeing bundles and discounts hitting the shelves right now, despite it only being October.  Amazon’s early Black Friday deals went live today, and will run through to November 19. As part of these offers, you can save up to £20 on a range of Nintendo Switch deals, from the handheld-only Lite model through to the difficult to find grey console.  These Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals are hitting some of the most recent titles as well – like Super Mario 3D All-Stars which can be found with a Nintendo Switch Lite for just £229 or the Switch itself for £309. You’ll also find games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons getting involved here, but this is where we flip the script.  While Amazon’s £229 price tag on the Switch Lite bundle is a decent price right now, you’ll actually find a better offer available at Currys if you’re looking for the main console. There, you can pick up a red and blue (or grey) Nintendo Switch deal that includes the latest Animal Crossing for just £299 – £10 cheaper than other retailers have it right now.  You’ll find all these Nintendo Switch bundles just below, but keep in touch for more Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals over the next few weeks.  Not in the UK? You’ll find plenty more Nintendo Switch deals at the bottom of the page.…Continue readingEarly Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals are already available at Amazon

Mall Santas would’ve had early COVID vaccines in canned Trump plan

Today on “Only in Trump’s America” we have a real doozy to share with you. The Department of Health and Human Services has pulled the plug on a planned $250 million public service ad campaign tied to the coronavirus pandemic. Part of the plan would’ve involved giving mall Santa Claus performers – as well as elves and Mrs. Claus’s – early access to an eventual COVID-19 vaccine in exchange for promoting the benefits of vaccination. The plan, which was detailed in a Sunday report from the Wall Street Journal, was reportedly conceived by HHS assistant secretary Michael Caputo. If that name sounds familiar, it’s probably because Caputo was the Trump crony who recently took a leave from his position after making outlandish, untrue claims on Facebook about left wing “hit squads” and a looming civil war in the event of a Trump loss in 2020. The HHS department confirmed on Friday that the plan has been canceled. It would’ve involved an ad blitz encompassing television, radio, online, and podcasts. The intent of the campaign, according to documents reviewed by the WSJ, was to “defeat despair, inspire hope and achieve national recovery.” This is apparently the same ad campaign that would’ve included the likes of Dennis Quaid, who made headlines in September when reports emerged that the actor was involved in a Trump-adjacent ad blitz. Word of the mall Santa component comes via recordings of a 12-minute phone call the administration had with Ric Erwin, chairman of the Fraternal Order of…Continue readingMall Santas would’ve had early COVID vaccines in canned Trump plan

Amazon Luna launches into early access for invitees only

Amazon’s cloud-gaming service Luna is available now to select gamers in the United States. The company launched the platform today in early access. You can request to join this beta period on the company’s website. As part of this program, you can pay $6 per month to subscribe to the Luna+ Game Channel that starts with a library of 50 games. In a blog post, Amazon’s Marc Whitten explained that Luna is going to start small. His team plans to invite only a fraction of the “hundreds of thousands of requests.” The idea is to use this beta to improve Luna for its eventual full launch, according to Whitten: We are just getting started and need streamers and players of all kinds — core, casual, and first-time gamers — to provide feedback. We want to hear what customers like, what they don’t like, and what they want to see us build. If we’re doing something great, tell us. If we’re missing the bar, we want to know that too. As part of early access, Luna’s Ubisoft channel is not yet live. Amazon says that is coming soon, and it will include Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. The Ubisoft channel will also get the company’s other games the same day as they launch on other platforms. Beta participants can also purchase the $50 Luna Controller, which Amazon designed to work specifically for cloud gaming. Like Stadia’s gamepad, the Luna Controller connects to Wi-Fi, so it can hook into Amazon’s servers directly. While Amazon…Continue readingAmazon Luna launches into early access for invitees only

Samsung’s next Galaxy S flagships could come as early as January 2021

Samsung might launch its next Galaxy S flagship phones earlier than ever next year.  According to leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer or @OnLeaks (via Voice), Samsung will launch the new phones in January 2021. A standard version and an Ultra version are surely coming; a Plus variant is possible, but this leak doesn’t contain any info about it.  As for the exact names, we aren’t sure yet; Hemmerstoffer calls these phones Samsung Galaxy S21, but there are indications that the new models might carry the name Samsung Galaxy S30.  Samsung Galaxy S21 (or S30) The leak also comes with renders of the standard and the Ultra models, showing them from all sides.  Not many details of internal specs were provided, but the S21 (S30?) will have a 6.2-inch, flat display (no more curvy edges) and will measure 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm (plus an additional 0.1mm of thickness if you include the hefty camera bump).  Samsung Galaxy S21 (S30?) Ultra. The Ultra variant will have a 6.7 to 6.9-inch display with slightly curved edges, and an absolutely massive camera bump (we don’t know the exact number of cameras on that thing, but Hemmerstoffer says it could be “up to four”). The Ultra will measure 165.1 x 75.6 x 8.9mm, with 1.9mm of extra thickness if you include the camera bump.  As for the launch, we don’t know the exact time frame, but Android Central also claims that the launch is currently slated for January. Samsung typically launches S-series flagships in mid-February, so…Continue readingSamsung’s next Galaxy S flagships could come as early as January 2021

Why the moon’s early magnetic field might be responsible for life on earth

The habitability of a planet depends on many factors. One is the existence of a strong and long-lived magnetic field. These fields are generated thousands of kilometers below the planet’s surface in its liquid core and extend far into space – shielding the atmosphere from harmful solar radiation. Without a strong magnetic field, a planet struggles to hang on to a breathable atmosphere – which is bad news for life as we know it. A new study, published in Science Advances, suggests that the Moon’s now extinct magnetic field may have helped protect our planet’s atmosphere as life was forming around 4 billion years ago. Today, Earth has a strong global magnetic field that protects the atmosphere and low-orbiting satellites from harsh solar radiation. In contrast, the Moon does not possess either a breathable atmosphere or a global magnetic field. Global magnetic fields are generated by the motion of molten iron in the cores of planets and moons. Keeping the fluid moving requires energy, such as heat trapped within the core. When there is insufficient energy, the field dies. Without a global magnetic field, the charged particles of the solar wind (radiation from the Sun) passing close to a planet generate electric fields that can accelerate charged atoms, known as ions, out of the atmosphere. This process is happening today on Mars and it is losing oxygen as a result – something that has been directly measured by the Mars atmosphere and volatile evolution (Maven) mission. The solar wind can…Continue readingWhy the moon’s early magnetic field might be responsible for life on earth

Apple TV Plus free trial extended for early adopters – here’s when it’ll expire

Apple has extended its year-long free trials of the Apple TV Plus streaming service that were set to expire starting on November 1. Now, it will extend your free TV Plus membership up to three months to (at least) February 1, 2021, assuming your trial was set to expire before then. If, for instance, your trial began on November 16, 2019, your free trial would end on February 16, 2021 — three months after the original renewal date. However, if your original trial began in January 2020, your trial will still end sometime in February 2021, giving you only one free month of streaming instead of three. If you’re unsure when you signed up or when your trial will end, you should be able to check your official upcoming renewal date on Apple’s Manage Subscriptions page. We also learned via TechCrunch that this extension also applies to anyone who paid out of pocket for an annual Apple TV Plus subscription during the same November 2019 through January 2020 window, pushing their renewal payments into February 2021. Moreover, current monthly Apple TV Plus subscribers will also benefit from Apple’s extension: reportedly, anyone who starts paying for Apple TV Plus before November 1st, 2020, will get a $4.99 credit per month applied automatically to their account until February 2021, which will offset the cost of the service.  As of right now, signing up for an Apple TV Plus free trial will get you just seven days before you have to pay. However,…Continue readingApple TV Plus free trial extended for early adopters – here’s when it’ll expire
