Niko Partners: Esports generated $519 million in Asia in 2019, growth continues in pandemic

Esports generated $519 million in revenue in 2019 in Asia, making it the No. 1 region in the world for such revenue, according to a report by market researcher Niko Partners. The growth continues in 2020 despite the pandemic, though Niko does not have a specific forecast for this year.

This ginormous DDoS attack generated over 800 million packets per second

Akamai has announced that it mitigated the largest packer per second (PPS) DDoS attack ever recorded on its platform.

The attack, which targeted a large European bank, generated 809m packets per second (Mpps). Akamai believes this is a new industry record for a PPS-focused attack as it is more than double the size of the previous high-water mark on its platform.

DDoS attacks are usually volumetric in nature and are generally measured in bits per second (bps). While a traditional DDoS attack aims to overwhelm the inbound traffic by sending more traffic to a circuit than it is designed to handle, PPS-focused attacks are designed to overwhelm the network gear or applications in a user’s data center or cloud environment. The Dark Eye: Book of Heroes interview — Bringing procedurally generated stories to RPGs

The Dark Eye is one of those tabletop role-playing games that doesn’t get a lot of attention in North America. It’s known as the “Dungeons & Dragons of Germany,” and it’s spawned a number of PC role-playing games along the way (like The Blackguards series and Drakensang: The Dark Eye, and underrated release from 2009).

Co-op is either online or local. It’s a standalone story and adapts the 5th Edition of The Dark Eye. It also focuses on eight smaller, procedurally generated storylines, not one epic story. With 12 professions and four species, Book of Heroes is more about tinkering with character builds and seeing how things turn out with different party compositions. At times, it reminds me of an old dungeon-crawler: Dungeon Hack, a 1993 D&D PC release in which you rolled one character and went into a procedural dungeon. Read More
