Uber offers to buy out Postmates, says NYT


Uber has made an offer to buy food delivery company Postmates, according to a report in The New York Times. The report doesn’t say how big the deal would be, but it could be finalized as soon as tonight; discussions are said to be ongoing.

Demand for Uber’s ride-hailing business has plummeted during the coronavirus pandemic as people stay at home, but the same circumstances have driven a huge increase in food delivery orders. Flipside Studio offers VR production tool for animation


Flipside Studio is a new virtual production tool that enables actors and directors to capture and create animated content entirely in VR. It’s leaving early access, after a testing period in which several notable companies and platforms used the technology.

The software enables you to embody avatars and models within VR and set up virtual cameras to film content from within the virtual studio. This allows actors to act out and perform scenes using motion capture, which is then recorded using virtual cameras and can be edited into a video or broadcast as live animation content. Read More

OnStar now offers its safety features through a phone app


You no longer need to be in your car to use OnStar’s safety features. GM just launched an app for Android and iOS, Guardian, that brings OnStar to phones for the first time. So long as you have an active OnStar plan, as many as eight people can use the service’s safety features whether or not they’re in a car. You can reach emergency advisors, share locations between family members and get roadside assistance. This may also provide a safety net if you’re in another car (when that’s an option, at least) — a Mobile Crash Response feature uses your phone’s motion sensing to detect a collision and, on Android, automatically connect you to an OnStar advisor. Disney Plus no longer offers free trials, just before Hamilton release


Disney Plus has appeared to have quietly stopped offering new subscribers a free seven-day trial of the streaming service, as spotted by French pop culture site Numerama.

It the free trial offer seems to be no longer available in the United States — there’s no mention of it anymore on the streaming site, and attempting to sign up for a new account will simply direct users to begin payments immediately for the service.

“We continue to test and evaluate different marketing, offers, and promotions to grow Disney+. The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own,” said a Disney Plus spokesperson in a statement to The Verge. Disney+ no longer offers a free trial period


Disney+ has pulled the plug on a promotion allowing new users a week-long free trial of the streaming service. The development comes weeks ahead of megahit musical Hamilton’s July 3rd debut on the platform.

“The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own,” a Disney spokeswoman told CNET. T-Mobile offers an explanation for its twelve-hour outage on Monday


As Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince pointed out that day, internet exchanges didn’t show the increase in traffic that would’ve suggested an attack under way, revealing the “boring” explanation of what happened.
